Don Cherry - When You Leave Amarillo (Turn Out the Lights)
Переглядів 3,2 тис.6 років тому
Known as a "Crooner" in the 50's and 60's mostly with the Ray Conniff Orchestra tried his skills at Country Music in the early 70's. This is the best version and arrangement (in MY opinion) of this song originally done by Bob Wills. It was released in 1973 I am assuming as the "B" side of Cajun Fiddler. We played this side on country radio. I searched You Tube high and low and couldn't find it ...
Bobby Wright - I'll Put My Boots On Backwards - 1965

I was a junior in high school when this song was out - 1965. I'm sorry to say I don't remember it at all. Perhaps it wasn't played on KCUL in Ft. Worth, Texas. I don't remember seeing nor hearing it as a dj later on in life either. I got a request for it and found it at RDIO. I like it. Hope you do too.
Carl Vaughn - You Gave Me A Mountain 1969 ORIGINAL Country Release
Переглядів 7 тис.11 років тому
This record made its way to KGRI in Henderson,Texas in the spring of 1969. We gave it a lot of air play until another independent label "STOP" Records sent to us the Johnny Bush version of this Marty Robbins penned song which reached #7 on the Top 100 Country Charts that year....and the rest is history. Carl Vaughn's version was the original release for COUNTRY radio and in my opinion a very go...

Mickey Gilley - It's Just A Matter Of Makin' Up My Mind
Переглядів 5 тис.12 років тому
"Mickey Gilley The Early Years". It's Just A Matter Of Makin' Up My Mind was originally released in1969 on the Shreveport "Paula" label although I don't believe this one is from that release. It was re-done and re-released a couple of more times in the 70's. At any rate it is a GREAT song I remember from my dj years. This song introduced me to Mickey Gilley and I have been a fan ever since. Hop...

"Buck Owens and the Buckaroos Live At Caregie Hall" was recorded live at Carnegie Hall New York City 1966,as Buck Owens and his Buckaroos became the second country band ever to perform there.Originally released on Capitol Records it was re-issued on CD in 2000 by Sundazed Records. This is the Capitol album. I have had this since its release in 1966. No edits or "cutting off" the ends like the o...

This is one of my favorite Merle Haggard songs. The blues version by Bobby Bland is also outstanding.

The banter and tunes represent the times and country music audience expectations. The record is a commercially produced production that to me sounds un-influenced by the Beatles . The focus seems to be on having a good time. Sounds like the audience did have a great time! If you are looking for non-commercial country music check out the Joe Bussard movie called Desperate Man Blues. Joe hated commercial country and pretty much anything recorded after 1955.

Buddy Emmons once told me he had to pull over to the side of the road when he first heard Tom's solo on Together Again. I played with Tom in the Rick Nelson band in the late 70s. A terrific player and a better human I never met.

My dad introduced me to Merle Haggard’s “Big City” album when I was 5 years old. For the first time in my life, I heard songs like Big City, My Favorite Memory, Are the Good Times Really Over, and I Always Get Lucky with You, all on one album. My dad passed away 16 years ago, and I miss him. But I still have Merle to remind me of his memory and his love for great music.
